Portrait or Personal Image - Cheryl Rau

Freelance photographer Cheryl Rau specializes in commercial, documentary, and fine art photography.

Cheryl was one of 39 artists whose work was selected for the "Mill-ennial 2010" juried art exhibition at Saco Museum, which featured contemporary painting, photography, and sculpture (April-June, 2010).

For commercial assignments, Cheryl shoots documentary-style, action images using available light. This approach results in highly efficient use of time, minimal disruption to your day-to-day operations, and unique photography to set your organization apart from the others using anonymous stock photos. With a professional marketing background and experience working as part of a creative team, Cheryl understands the challenges of limited budgets and unreasonable deadlines, as well as the essential role that eye-catching photographs play in telling your story. She blends the eye of an artist with the attitude of a realist.

Prior to launching Cheryl Rau Photography in 2008, Cheryl’s professional career consisted of two decades of professional positions in marketing & communications, event planning, project management, and training. She has successfully worked in a broad range of environments including small business start-up, federal government contractor, education, manufacturing, and nonprofit.

Cheryl has volunteered with The Animal Welfare Society, visited a residential facility for Alzheimer’s patients with her dog for the “Pets on Wheels” program, and served as an On-Call Outreach volunteer with the Sexual Assault Service.

Cheryl is a graduate of the photography program at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies (Portland, ME) and an associate member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP). She earned a bachelor of arts (summa cum laude) in Journalism & Communications from Point Park College (Pittsburgh, PA). Originally from Pennsylvania, Cheryl lived in the Washington, DC area for 15 years before relocating to Maine in 1997.
